What are some unique opportunities you have had through this residency?:
One of the many benefits of being a resident at Providence has been the opportunity to learn from pharmacy leaders at the local, regional, and system level. I have also been provided the freedom to take on additional projects that align with my professional interests. This includes creating and taking ownership of a new IPPE/Intern program at Providence Portland Medical Center, as well as serving as the Chief Resident to 16 PGY1s.
Professional Journey:
My interest in residency began when I came to the realization I would not feel prepared to be an effective leader after graduation from pharmacy school. The PGY1/PGY2 Administration Residency aligned directly
with my goals to become a knowledgeable clinician, while providing ample opportunities to learn from amazing leaders in this profession. My goal is to remain in Oregon following the end of residency and begin my
career in pharmacy administration.
Advanced Training:
While I was a pharmacy student at Oregon State University, I elected to join their dual PharmD/MBA program. Over the last few years, I have been taking a combination of in-person and online courses, culminating
in my final class this Fall! I strongly believe the tools I have learned throughout the MBA program have been instrumental to my growth as a professional and as a pharmacist.
Other Professional Activities:
At the beginning of this year, I became the Citywide Coordinator for all of the PGY1 residents in the Oregon region. It has been a great experience facilitating sessions that foster professional development and
networking opportunities for new pharmacists.
What made you take interest in OSHP?
Like many P1 students, I first became a member of OSHP with very little knowledge of what membership entailed. As I progressed through school, OSHP events then became great opportunities to learn about
residency programs and get to know different leaders in the area. I now look at involvement with OSHP as a chance to play a role in helping move our profession forward, and foster the growth of students and
residents. I definitely hope to take on a larger role within OSHP after the craziness of PGY2 year is done.
Fun fact about yourself:
Over the last 10 years, I have helped create and grow a TOPSoccer program that provides kids with mental and physical disabilities the opportunity to play soccer. The program began as a way to provide my
sister and her classmates the chance to enjoy the game I love, and has since grown to over seeing over 50 kids per session. Please reach out for details if you know someone that wants to join or help volunteer!
