Landmark Trials you may have missed
BLING III
Presented by Ben Vermillion
New medical practices are adopted for a variety of reasons – because they ought to work (the pathophysiologic model is compelling), it is apparent on observation, or clinical data demonstrates there to be benefit. All of these reasons have found themselves argued at one point for the continuous infusion of beta-lactams. The goal of this talk will be to contextualize the latest and most robust entry into this discussion, the BLING III trial.
Doxycycline Post-exposure Prophylaxis for Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention
Presented by Viet Nguyen
Doxycycline taken 72 hours after having condomless sex has been shown to reduce syphilis and chlamydia infections by >70% and gonococcal infections by approximately 50% for gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men and transgender women at increased risk for these infections (specifically, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea). The CDC recently published clinical guidelines on counseling patients regarding doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (or doxy PEP) for bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention.

OHA Health Equity Program around Vaccination efforts of Pacific Islanders in OR.
Presented by Melissa Hanks, MA, OPMA, Ronica Reimers, Kayla Mailo, Trevor Douglass, Rebecca Knight-Alvarez, and Michael Yu
Between 2021 and 2022 The Oregon Health Authority's Public Health Division carried out a community-centered COVID-19 vaccination campaign that prioritized language access and community involvement at every stage. One branch of this campaign focused on vaccinations for the many thousands of community members from the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and the Republic of Palau. People from these nations are entitled to US social services and legal migration to the US under the Compacts of Free Association (COFA). Two language and culture subject matter experts (who are also members of the COFA community) will present alongside OHA Vaccine Operations staff to talk about the health disparities that people from COFA nations face every day, their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, and what a "culturally and linguistically appropriate" vaccine campaign looks like for their community. OHA Vaccine Operations staff will talk about the health equity principles applied during the COVID-19 vaccine campaign and their experiences working alongside community members to deliver vaccines and vaccine information outside the traditional clinical model.
